Arsenal and Manchester City now share the top of the Premier League table with 21 points each. Arsenal secured this position on Saturday by defeating Everton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. The result arrived on the same day Manchester City suffered their first loss of the season.

City fell 2-1 at Aston Villa, where Nicolas Jackson scored twice. The defeat ended the visitors' unbeaten start to the league campaign. This result allowed Arsenal to close a three-point gap between the two clubs after eight games.

Arsenal took an early lead in north London. In the seventh minute, Ezri Konsa scored from a yard out after a corner from Martin Odegaard was not cleared. It marked Arsenal's first set-piece goal since May, ending a 13-game drought in all competitions.

The second goal arrived in the 68th minute, combining two player milestones. Ben White, playing his 200th match for Arsenal, crossed to the far post. Gabriel headed the ball home on his 200th Premier League appearance. Everton currently sit in ninth place.

At Villa Park, Unai Emery's team moved to sixth place with 11 points. The victory marked their first home league win of the season and their third consecutive league win against Manchester City. Jackson opened the scoring in the sixth minute after a turnover by Marc Guehi. Erling Haaland equalized after halftime from a free-kick, but Jackson scored the winner on the hour.

Manchester City remains in the midst of an off-field financial dispute. An independent commission found the club committed 114 breaches of Premier League financial rules. The club is currently awaiting the outcome of an appeal while denying wrongdoing.

Elsewhere in the matches, Tottenham Hotspur defeated Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. This was Tottenham's second league win at the venue in 36 years. Mathys Tel scored the final goal in the 87th minute to seal the result for the 12th-placed side.
