Residents in the Alūksne district of Latvia received confirmation on Saturday that a downed drone had been located. The National Armed Forces identified the wreckage, ending a search that had been paused for several days.

The military determined that the unmanned aerial vehicle most likely crossed into Latvian airspace on 18 October. The incident first drew public attention after a noise resembling an explosion was reported. Following this alert, the National Armed Forces and the State Police initiated a search for the crash site.

Authorities suspended the initial search after two days because available data was insufficient to identify the object. The debris was recovered only after this pause, leading to a new investigation into the circumstances of the event. An internal review is also underway to assess how the incident unfolded.

Officials stated that no civilians were injured during the incident. Civilian infrastructure remained undamaged, and authorities have not identified any further threats to the area.

The discovery follows a similar event in neighboring Lithuania on the same day, 18 October. Lithuanian officials found the wreckage of a suspected drone in the village of Juodžionys in the Pasvalys district. Lithuania reported that the drone entered its airspace from Poland.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius stated that the aircraft contained explosives. Heorhii Tykhyi, the spokesman for Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, suggested the Lithuanian incident was likely caused by Russian electronic warfare measures. He added that Ukraine expressed regret over the event.
